Martin-Luther Universität Halle’s (MLU) Photovoltaics group has more than 10 years of experience developing CIGS thin film solar cells and their analysis using computer simulation.

A digital twin of the CIGS solar cells has been developed, which allows access to several material parameters. Recently, the research group concentrated on semi-transparent, bifacial and tandem solar cells based on CIGS. In this regard, the group has developed an ITO-based transparent back contact for semi-transparent CIGS devices. The group has worked on several research projects funded by national and international resources.

MLU is leading WP3 on "Tandem architecture and scaling to prototype tandem modules". Therein, MLU will carry out ITO optimization. As the leader of Task 4.3, MLU will provide a computer simulation of the novel tandem architectures using a newly developed fitting routine based on Sentaurus TCAD.
