Sunplugged develops and manufactures flexible photovoltaic (PV) modules for the seamless integration of solar energy in self-powered devices, vehicles and buildings.
The core product of Sunplugged is an easily integratable and pliable energy-harvesting material that can be customized “on-the-fly” with respect to size, layout and output voltage.
Sunplugged’s unique PV product combines the advantages of CIGS thin-film technology with a robust, flexible, insulated steel substrate and a fully customizable serial interconnection technology.
Combining these three novel technologies allows for offering a high-efficient, ultra-light-weight and fully adaptable PV material for the aesthetic and viable integration of PV in a wide range of objectives.
Sunplugged started the development of these groundbreaking developments in 2011 and operated a small-scale production line in Austria. Ten scientists and engineers strive daily to optimize and upscale the made-to-measure photovoltaic foil.
Due to its long-standing experience in module fabrication and back-end processing, Sunplugged is mainly involved in developing the CIGS module interconnection and prototyping 2-Terminal PV modules based on voltage-matched CIGS and Silicon submodules. Another focus of Sunplugged´s work in the SITA project is the assessment of potential end-use applications and conceptualising an upscaling roadmap for the SITA approach.
